Tiny Talk Tuesday
David spent some time with MawMaw on Sunday evening. When she brought him home, I had lit the candle in the jack-o-lantern outside. I told David to show MawMaw his pumpkin, so he took her across the yard, pointing at it. When we got to the pumpkin, he took the lid off and looked inside saying, "Jesus is inside the pumpkin."
"What?" asked MawMaw, unsure that she heard what she thought she heard. So I explained that in The Pumpkin Patch Parable, the farmer compares his jack-o-lantern with the candle inside to the light of Jesus shining inside us.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. - Matthew 5:16
I haven't tried to teach David the words to the LarryBoy theme song, but perhaps I should...See more Tiny Talk Tuesday over at Not Before 7!
Thinking about Thanksgiving? My sister has written an eBook called Give Thanks that she's selling at the Homeschool eStore. It has readings for each day from last Sunday through Thanksgiving Day. I've also compiled a list of Thanksgiving books in my Amazon store.

Ride Outs
What a good husband I have to pose in his new floor uniform for me to document!
It was pretty chilly, so he wore the new jacket this morning, too. Funny thing is that the shoulders, arms & placket all had a very light gray grid printed on them. We didn't realize it was all reflective until I took the pictures and he lit up!

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

Pumpkin Carving
Friday evening we finally cut into Mr. Pumpkin. This was David's first time to "help" carving a pumpkin.
David was quick to say, "No... ok!" (which means NO) to touching the slimy insides, but he watched intently and was excited about the triangle eyes & nose!
So what do ya think?
Dad said we should have
made a scary pumpkin.
I told him he'd have to
do his own!

Photo Tag: Autumn
Won't you join me for a little fall fun this week? Your pictures do not have to include kids or pumpkins - be creative and interpret the theme however you want! If you're playing along, be sure to sign the Linky at the bottom & link back to this post on your post.
Please pray for David as he tries to get over this nasty congestion he's had to miss Cubbies and a trip to the zoo because of it.
Thursday's Happy Birthday goes out to Aunt Erin! This concludes our week of birthdays!

Tiny Talk Tuesday
We finally decided on David's costume - and if you haven't seen Super Why on PBS, I highly recommend it!
I found a great Etsy seller, Superfly Kidz, who made the cape and mask for us. If you're in the market for a super hero or princess cape, check her out! She'll even make capes for birthday parties!
After getting the cape & mask in the mail on Monday, David ran around the house saying, "Super David, with the Power to Help!" Super Why has the Power to Read, and he always says, "Super You, with the Power to Help!"

Who Wants Free Steaks?
I've been reading a lot lately about more substantial living, urban homesteading, and just saving money through lifestyle in general. That's the kind of links I was clicking on when I ran across Catherine Wheels. Here's where I perked up - free meat!
OK, folks, I did this. It works... as long as the coupons are honored by Omaha Steaks & Geico. So here's what you do (read carefully):
Step One - Click here to sign up for Geico Privileges. This is free to sign up for. You're not asking for an insurance quote or changing insurance or anything, you're just signing up for a perks program. And I assume you'll be able to un-subscribe later. They will email you a confirmation that you signed up. As a thank you for signing up, Geico Privileges will give you a coupon code for $25 off at Omaha Steaks. The code is in the confirmation email and it may take an hour or more for you to get your email. I had to wait overnight before I got my email & code. Check your spam filter if you don't see it & be patient! : )Step Two - Next, follow this link and add your email address. Yes, I will get credit for you following that link. If 2 people follow my link, I'll get another $20 gift card. You'll be able to create your own link after you register. After you've entered your email address there, you will get another email from "shareomahasteaks" with a link inside the email. You'll click on that link to get started and that will automatically add 12 free 4-oz steak burgers to your shopping cart. (Don't worry, this won't show up until you check out.)
Step Three - Continue shopping. Really you can pick any other item you want, but if you go to the burger page and select 8 5-oz steak burgers for $12.99, you're entire order will be practically free!
Step Four - Checkout. Enter your mailing address & in your cart you'll see the free steaks, plus the item you selected, plus shipping. My shipping was $13.99, but remember you've got a $25 coupon code from Geico Privilidges! BEFORE you enter your payment information, enter the coupon code that was emailed to you and click apply. On my order of steak burgers, the coupon took my total, including shipping, down to $1.98!!! Then you can complete the transaction, paying with your credit card or even with your Paypal account.
I have my confirmation in my hand from Omaha Steaks saying that my cooler of meat should arrive before October 28. That's 88-oz of steak burgers, or 20 burgers, for $1.98! Catherine figured out that's hamburger for 36c per pound! Cool!

Playing
Today our MOPS group met at the park. See how the little girls are all sitting so sweetly on a pallet, eating their lunches? See the little red shirt over there by the playground? That's David. The other little boys were having their lunch behind where I was sitting with Elizabeth. He did play with the other kids when they were all out there, but didn't join everyone for lunch.
Below, you will see a big boy (aka Grandpa) having fun, playing with his new toy. I've always heard the only difference between men & boys is the price of their toys!

Starting to Clear Our Spot!
We have had the land surveyed and have a 9-1-1 address for our spot!!! I tied bright orange ribbons around some trees we want to make sure don't get damaged last weekend while Dad cut back some limbs. Grandpa, Dad & one of the neighbors pulled up some trees at the house site after the rain earlier this week.

A Fish Tale
My best friend sent me this picture this week. She said it's a redfish caught off the Texas coast while the kids were all getting sick in the boat!
Let's compare to Grandpa's fish...

Pumpkin Muffins
Remember the jar mix I made at my last MOPS meeting? Well, I mixed it up tonight since David had been asking for pumpkin bread. I used my Wilton Silicone Pumpkin Pan and truly had Pumpkin Muffins! Click on the image for a larger view...
Heather from Not a DIY Life asked for the recipe, so here ya go!
Pumpkin Jar Mix
Layer into quart jar in the following order:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 3/4 cup raisins
Pumpkin Mini Muffins
(This is what should appear on the recipe card you tie on the jar.)
- 1 jar Pumpkin Mini Muffin Mix
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
- 1/2 cup milk
The batter looks more like cookie dough than muffin mix and the muffins are pretty dense, but the tasted pretty yummy! Now I just need to figure out what to do with a can of pumpkin, less 1/2 cup. Any suggestions???

Tiny Talk Tuesday: A Big Week
There's been a lot of tiny talk this week! It makes me so proud to see David's vocabulary improve. He has come so far in the last year! Visit Mary at Not Before 7 to see more Tiny Talk!
Wednesday night we were late coming in from Cubbies. Dad was just inside the door flicking the light on & off, but David couldn't see him.
David: The light needs new batteries!
Coming home from dinner out with Dad's cousin, the sky was dark but a long wispy cloud was reflecting light from the Metroplex & appeared gray.
David: I see an amazing gray light.
Mom: An amazing gray light?
David: Yeah, a wonderful, amazing gray light!
Sunday afternoon we were hiking around our spot when we came across some critter poop on the path. David stopped for a closer look.
Mom: Some little animal pooped there; don't touch it.
David: It's lion poop!
As we pulled out from that trip, the sun was behind some looming storm clouds. Beautiful rays of sunlight were streaming out from the clouds, but you couldn't see the sun.
David: Mom, the sun is stuck in those clouds!
David: Why are you being so complicated, Mom?
I have no idea where he heard that one!

PTO Carnival
MawMaw took David to his first PTO Carnival on Saturday. I tagged along as the photographer! There weren't as many things for a preschooler to do as we'd hoped, but David still enjoyed a few things before we had to leave.
He enjoyed the city fountain and wanted to get in to go swimming. He seemed to be fascinated by the Indian corn.
His third try on the slide, he got stepped on while climbing up. His fourth try was fun again until he crashed into the air wall at the bottom, where I think it hurt his mouth again. After that, he enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at MawMaw's house!

Elizabeth's 9-month Portraits
We had Elizabeth's 9-month pictures taken today. She was a bit stone-faced, but the photographer was able to get a few grins out of her.

I asked if she could take one with David kissing the top of Elizabeth's head, but Elizabeth looked so blank in that one that the photographer took this one instead.
