Tiny Talk Tuesday Returns

Rebekah was starting to fall asleep on the floor as I changed her diaper before nap time yesterday.  David ran over & excitedly proclaimed:  
Bekah-boo is soooo cute!!!  She's as cute as 101 babies stacked on top of each other!

He thinks all babies are absolutely adorable and has even said that the one inside Mama's tummy is cute!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

When David was almost 1-year old, I would lay down on the couch with him every afternoon and read to him. I figured it might as well be something that would entertain me as well, so I started reading him the Eddie books by Carolyn Haywood. My sister helped me collect a good stash of Haywood's books from library sales and I enjoyed reading them to him. When a recent read-aloud that Sonlight suggested didn't suit David's interest, I pulled out Eddie and the Fire Engine, which was written in 1949. He didn't remember the books from his babyhood, and he has enjoyed hearing the story.

All that to preface this week's Tiny Talk! Last night while reading, David heard a new usage for a word.
David: What does 'swell' mean?
Mom, thinking of a word he would understand: It means 'cool'.
David: Well, then - Mom, I think you're pretty swell.

Definition understood. Compliment accepted!
Now I wonder how such a sweet little boy ends up looking so grumpy in photos?

Elizabeth: Look, Movher, I made a E!!!

And she did! All by herself she made that E!!! I am so proud! She is 3-years old! For 2 days, she has called me "Movher"... for the last day every time she said it I've asked her to call me Mama or Mommy. For some reason, I don't really care for being called Mother.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

I walked in from the store holding the little pink hat. Elizabeth gasped, wide-eyed, and said excitedly, "Mom! Do you have a pink hat???? Is it for me?!?!?!?"

Elizabeth walked up to me the other day and said, "Mommy, I want to go to Lowe's."

I told the kids I decided to make carrot cake for Rebekah's first birthday party and I'll make chocolate chip cake for Dad's. They both replied, "I want Dad's cake." I think they're afraid carrot cake might be healthy!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

David did Power Yoga with me one night. The workout was only 20 minutes long. About 10 minutes into the program he began to ask how much longer. About 15 minutes in he said:
It's hard to exercise this much when you're a kid.

All three kids were playing with our dancing monkey musical baby toy thing. (I couldn't find a link in English! I don't think it's sold here any more. We got it for David's first Christmas.)
Elizabeth started hollering: I want to play the banana!!
Mom: What? You want to play the banana???
Elizabeth: Yeah! I want to play the piano!

Road Trip!

One thing that Dad & I have always loved doing together is taking road trips. It's been a while since we took one, so when the opportunity arose to go to a cousin's wedding and MawMaw offered to keep the kids for the weekend, we jumped on it!

I collect photos of Texas courthouses, so we added a few more to the collection on this trip.

When we were hungry, our choices were Don Antonio's Tortilleria or Dairy Queen. Don won that one! While stopped for lunch, Dad worked on the trip sheet, noting how long we had spent stopped...
Texas has some of the most beautiful courthouses. This was not one of them.

OK, none of the courthouses on this trip were one of them...


But this one had a lawyer handy across the street!

Finally made it & we got all prettied up for the wedding. Don't we look cute?! : )

The church was beautiful! After I caught my breath, I took pictures from all angles:

Just to show that we actually did attend a wedding, here's a photo of us with the bride & groom... ok, us and all of our side of the family that attended.

Their colors were red & black. The cake was very cute! Bottom layer was red velvet, the middle chocolate, the top was white. We had red velvet. Later that night, my body went into shock from that much artificial food coloring, since I have been off of it along with David on his diet. I won't be doing that again...

There was dancing at the reception and I actually had a dance with my sweet hubby! We really need to learn how to dance because there's another wedding later this summer and we may not be able to hide in the crowd next time!

I showed that picture to David of Aunt Jana singing with her arms up in the air, and some Tiny Talk ensued.
David: What is Aunt Jana singing?
Mom: I don't know.
David: I think she's singing a Star Wars song!
bwahahahahaha!!!!

It's really amazing how many windmills there are out there now-a-days! Of course, we followed the rails for as much of the trip as we could.

Now there's something you don't see every day! (it's an inside joke) hahaha!!!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

We're using Starfall.com for language arts. I highly recommend their program for learning to read. David has really been enjoying it. Elizabeth also enjoys their ABC pages... now if she could just figure out how to use the mouse!

Here is David singing last week's verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:19. Song from Sing the Word: From A to Z, part of our Kindergarten home school curriculum from Sonlight.

A few days ago, I was whistling the catchy cantina song from Star Wars. David didn't want me to sing "his song" and came up with his own version. I have to admit, I was impressed with his ability to write lyrics on the fly!


We had another death in the family this week, this time my husband's grandpa. I explained to David & Elizabeth that PaPa loved Jesus, so his soul had gone to heaven. Elizabeth replied, "With Grandma?" Yes, my love.

She has a notebook of coloring pages and a wipe-off book that's for practicing handwriting. She calls it "my school work." She's so cute working in her books. Sometimes she traces the letters, sometimes she draws smiley faces, sometimes she just scribbles.

Rebekah says: Da-did! and she is in the process of cutting tooth #3 this week!

Tiny Talk Tuesday in Memory

I haven't felt much like blogging lately. But I'll do this one in memory of Grandma, my Momma, who passed away February 11, 2010. She loved to read Tiny Talk Tuesday.

Uncle Jimmy came to visit Grandma last week. My kids had never met him, so I asked: So what did you think of Uncle Jimmy?
David: He had girl hair.
Elizabeth: Yeah, it was white!
Uncle Jimmy has gray/white hair in a long pony tail.

Aunt Sissy was making David & Elizabeth peanut butter sandwiches last night and asked: Do you want squares or triangles?
Elizabeth: Triangles!
David: I want it like a man! (a whole sandwich, not cut)

We've had to talk about the subject of death. When I explained heaven, David replied: Now there are two people in heaven - Great and Grandma.

Dad did an excellent job when he talked to David. One night at supper, David said: Grandma's soul is in heaven.

We love you Grandma and miss you greatly.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

I said something referring to Rebekah as my butterfly.
Elizabeth: She not a butterfly. She's Rebekah.
Mom: She's my Butterfly, like you're my Ladybug.
David: And I'll be your moth!

David got some Castle Legos from his cousin for Christmas. Finding the catapult, he said: Look at this rock launcher!
Mom: That's called a catapult.
David: Catapult?
Mom: Yes, catapult.
Later, referring to the catapult: Look what I'm doing with the casserole!

Two More Days!

Oops... I forgot yesterday was Tuesday! It was after lunch before anyone noticed that I had wrapped some presents & put them under the tree last night. Elizabeth suddenly gasped, then screamed, "PRESENTS!!!" David came running across the room to see and started yelling, "I see a present with my name on it!!!" Elizabeth, "Me, too!! Me, too!!!"

Tonight he picked up his present and shook it. Must be instinct. Then he said reflectively, "Huh... it doesn't make any noise. I hope it's Legos." I said, "You don't want Legos for your Christmas Eve present, you wouldn't have time to play with them before going to bed." (trying...) As he walked away he asked, "Is my present pajamas?" Little stinker.

His bedtime prayer? "Help me to have no bad dreams, only good dreams. Help me to get Legos for my Christmas Eve present. Amen."

There he is diligently working on one of his presents that he's giving. : )

Elizabeth had to work on something, too. She asks, "Mom, can I do my school work, too?"

I made these Peppermint Meltaway Cookies this weekend, except we went all natural and left out the red food coloring and red stripped candy topping. Still they are really, really yummy! I love them, but they are a little too "melty" (aka crumbly) for the little folk. They're all gone now.

I used the extra peppermint icing on the last of Aunt Wee's chocolate pound cake... oh. my. The combination of chocolate and peppermint is heavenly. It's all gone now, too.

I was on a peppermint kick that day, so I added peppermint to the hot chocolate at lunch time. Elizabeth enjoyed it with her peanut butter sandwich.

Day before yesterday, Dad asked me when I was going to make *his* cookies. Here ya go. Made them last night.

Earlier I also made a loaf of bread, a triple batch of hot chocolate mix, a batch of chocolate milk powder, and a batch of Swiss Mocha mix. Washed a load of clothes, set a load of diapers to soak overnight, ran a full dishwasher twice. AND I cooked lunch AND dinner AND went grocery shopping! Now that was productive day!

Dad brought me the little Christmas tree that I wanted when he came home from work today. Isn't it cute?!?!? Thank you, Babe!

Rebekah: Mama! Mama! Mama! and repeat...
Sweet, sweet sound to my ears! : ) She says it so much now and it's very obvious that she knows what it means, too! She also says Ba Ba, which I think is what she's calling herself.

Mom: Guess who's on your shirt.

Elizabeth: Guess?

Mom: Yeah, guess who's on the front of your shirt.

I turn shirt around and she replies: OH! That's not Guess! That's Cookie Monster!

Elizabeth, while playing with a little Mary doll: This Mary is wearing a blue dress of God.

Elizabeth: Mom, what's this?

Mom: That's a piece of coral.

Elizabeth: Can we eat it?

Mom: No, it's like a rock.

Elizabeth: Oh. Did you get this when you were swimming under the sea?

Mom: Yep.

Elizabeth: Were you scared swimming under the sea?

Mom: No, it was beautiful under the sea.

Elizabeth: Ariel swims under the sea. Mom, I want to watch a princess movie.

David has really enjoyed singing Christmas carols this year:

Tiny Talk Tuesday

I'm noticing a shift in my tiny talk. Used to be all David... now Elizabeth is talking constantly, too, and it's just too funny!

Today, she just started out of the blue: Mom, I missed you when you were on the plane.
Mom: Aw, I missed you, too, babe.
Elizabeth: I just lived with Grandma and Aunt Jana. And Aunt Jana played her Farmville.
hahahaha! Aunt Jana, you've been ratted out!

Elizabeth: But Mom, my leg hurts! (she's always hurting something)
Mom: Why does your leg hurt?
Elizabeth: Because I need to watch a movie. (long pause) That's ok. I'm just a bear.

I was in the bathroom, where Elizabeth had just run from when I heard
David: Hey! Elizabeth is naked!!!
Elizabeth: No I'm not! I have on my dancing shoes!

We've switched David to an all natural diet with positive results in his behavior. We went to Whole Foods Market yesterday in search of natural candy for upcoming Christmas stuff. He was excited to see so many all natural products & kept picking up stuff, asking "Is this all natural?" and "Can we get it???"

So tonight, I was eating my leftovers with a diet Coke when he asked: Mom, is your drink all natural?
Mom: Um, no, it's not.
David: You know, you should only drink all natural stuff, Mom!
In my defense, I did have water with lunch! : )

I am thankful for a number of people who are helping take care of my kids this week. Today, I say thank you, Grana, for your help!

Elizabeth slipped getting out of the tub Saturday night.
Mom: Did you hurt your mouth?
EB: No! My teeth!
Mom: Let me see.
EB: No! I need a band-aid on my teeth!
Mom: A band-aid won't stick to your teeth, It's too wet in there.
EB, suddenly stopped crying: It is??? Really???

I wonder what type of stories Aunt Jana is getting this week...

Yesterday I cleaned the front & back door window glass. David called loudly through the glass: Hey, Mom! What are you doing?
Mom: I'm cleaning the glass!
David: Why? Are we having company?
ouch...

On a more uplifting note...
Elizabeth was singing happily while sitting on her throne: Mommy is a princess, my mommy is a princess...
David hollers from the other room: Hey, Elizabeth! Mom is not a princess! She is a queen!
aahhh... now I feel better...
