River Hop 2

Monday we headed to the Hill Country! We checked into our hotel about 5:30pm and headed over to Gruene. Here are David & Dad headed toward the Hall. Note the historic water tower. We ate at the Gristmill...


Then walked down the hill to the Gruene River Crossing of the Guadalupe River. The water was very low. You can see some fishermen in the distance. This is David's 2nd trip to the Guad. Dad dipped David's toes in the water the first time when he was only 2 months old!



David was happy to be out of the car and enjoyed cooling off - clothes & all in the Guadalupe. He picked up rocks & threw them with all his might! He's very strong! Dad helped him with a few of the really big rocks.



Tuesday morning we started out at the playground at Landa Park in New Braunfels. The train didn't start running until 10am, so we had about an hour to play.





Finally the train got started. We were one of 4-5 families who'd been playing waiting for the train. The train circled the park, almost got hit by a truck at a crossing because the guy didn't see it coming, passed a bunch of ducks and paddle boats on the Comal River and made it's way back to a temporary station. There was construction where the station usually sits. David and Dad both seemed to thoroughly enjoy the ride! Of course Mom did too.

Tuesday afternoon we headed out to Guadalupe River State Park. The water was very low! We had to lay back almost flat in order to get all wet. David liked the rocks and the other kids and dogs splashing around us.

David had a hat on when we got out of the car, but by the time we got down to the water it was gone. Mom re-traced our steps, but never found it. He was well slathered with sunscreen, though.

David has enjoyed telephones lately. We saw a pay phone at a gas station today & he said, "Ding, ding. Heh-whoa?" Very cute!!


Guess he's just got phones on the brain, because during the night he rolled over & bumped into me. I turned over & checked on him. He was still asleep, but then said in his sleep, "Ding, ding. Heh-whoa?" This is Wednesday morning at the hotel.


We got an early start Wednesday and discovered that nothing opens until 10am! So after breakfast we changed into our suits and went to this city park in San Marcos. This water is from the ICY spring-fed San Marcos River. I mean it was COLD!!! David would not even get in, so we sat on a big rock on the side dangling our feet in. We still had fun. David enjoys people watching, too. Click on the photo above to see Dad going down the spillway - he's the white guy with arms sticking up!


Dad also did a little diving to see the fish & stuff on the bottom of the river. There was one guy in full scuba gear diving there! More people started showing up by 11am. David fell asleep in the car after that, so we took a nap at the hotel before having a late lunch at Taco Cabana....


Then went to the spring-fed pool at Landa Park. The spring-fed pool has a nice kid area that David really enjoyed. This giant mushroom has a shower that comes down off the edges that sometimes trickles, sometimes pours, sometimes stops. You never know what it's going to do. That was David's favorite thing. There was also a little bitty water slide, a small water slide, and some lily pads to climb on. Out in the deep water there are big slides, ropes, and swings for the brave ones!




After swimming, David was quite hungry, so we ate supper in Gruene and stopped by the Hall. Here is David enjoying a little live music. He enjoys guitars and drums!







Then he took Mom's hand and headed out to the dance floor! It was relatively early, so the place wasn't crowded. The only other dancer was another little boy who appeared to be about 2 as well and his mom.





Thursday (today) we stopped at Pedernales Falls State Park on the way out of town. The water was very low. Just barely enough to wade in. We decided to go back another time.


But by this point, David had clearly had enough of having fun. He was asleep shortly after getting back in the car & we headed for home. What a fun trip!
